Website design and redesign for small businesses

We build sites that turn visits into calls and inquiries, and we redirect every old URL so you keep the rankings you already have. Website design for a small business is planning, writing, designing and building the site customers use to decide whether to contact you.

What the free website audit checks

Redesign without losing SEO

Redesigns lose rankings when old URLs disappear. Before launch we list every URL that has traffic, links or rankings, map each one to its new home with a permanent redirect, and carry over titles, descriptions and structured data.

After launch we watch Search Console for crawl errors and ranking drops for 30 days and fix anything that slips. Your redesign should keep what’s working and improve what isn’t.

What a website project includes

From the page plan to 30 days after launch. Every page is written, designed and built around the inquiry it should produce.

Discovery
An audit of your current site and a page plan based on what your customers search for.
Copywriting
We write the pages, in your voice, around the questions buyers ask before they inquire.
Mobile-first design
Designed for the phone first, with tap-to-call and short forms.
The build
On a platform we choose together, plus training so you can edit it yourself.
Performance targets
Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint under 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1, plus WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility.
SEO migration
A URL inventory, a 301 redirect map, metadata, schema and Search Console, so the redesign doesn’t cost you rankings.
Tracking and forms
GA4, ad tags, form and call events, and forms wired to your email or CRM with an autoresponder.
Launch and 30 days
Launch QA, a privacy page, and 30 days of monitoring after the site goes live.

Process and timeline

The plan for a typical eight-week build, then 30 days of watching the live site. Your written quote sets the dates.

  1. Weeks 1 and 2

    Discovery

An audit of your current site and analytics, the questions buyers ask before they call, and a page plan you approve.

  2. Weeks 3 and 4

    Sitemap and copy

Every page written in your voice. You edit the words before any design starts.

  3. Weeks 5 and 6

    Design

Phone layouts first, then desktop, with your real copy in place instead of placeholder text.

  4. Weeks 7 and 8

    Build and QA

The build on the platform we chose together, then forms, call tracking and every redirect tested.

  5. Week 9, then 30 days

    Launch

The site goes live, and we watch Search Console and your inquiries and fix anything that slips.

Can’t I just use a site builder?

You can, and for some businesses that’s the right call. Wix, Squarespace and AI builders make it easy to build a site that looks fine.

What they don’t do is decide what each page needs to say, how the form should be structured, how your old URLs get redirected or whether tracking counts your leads. That’s the part we take on, and we agree on the platform with you before we start.

Where your website fits in

Your site is where the ads land and what search engines read, so we build it with both in mind.

How we price a website

A website build is one fixed project fee, quoted in writing after the free audit and before any work starts. Ongoing work after launch, such as ads or conversion work, is a separate flat monthly fee.

How our pricing works

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

If you’re not a fit, the free audit will say so, and tell you what to fix first.

Usually a good fit

  • Your site is the bottleneck: slow, dated or hard to change.
  • You’re about to spend on ads and need pages built for them.
  • You get visits but few inquiries, and the platform blocks the fixes.
  • You sell online, and your store is slow or hard to buy from.

Usually not a fit

  • You need a template site live in a week.
  • You only need a logo or brand identity.

What we won’t do when we build

These apply to every account and project we take on, whatever the budget. They sit alongside the standards we hold across the studio.

Read our standards
  • Launch without a redirect map.
  • Build on a platform you can’t edit or leave.
  • Ship without testing tracking.
  • Use stock testimonials or placeholder proof.

Questions about website design

Ask us anything else at [email protected]. A founder replies within one business day.

How long does a redesign take?

We plan six to ten weeks from discovery to launch for a typical small business site, and two to three weeks for a set of ad landing pages. Your written quote states the timeline.

Do I own the site?

Yes. The site, the domain, the content and the analytics are yours.

Do you write the copy?

Yes. We write every page, then refine it with you. You know your customers; we know what makes a page convert.

Can I edit it myself?

Yes. We build on a platform you can edit and train you on it before launch.

What drives the cost?

The number of pages, how much copy we write, integrations, the size of the SEO migration and the platform. You get a fixed written quote after the audit, before any work starts.
