Google Ads, CRO and SEO for remodelers and contractors
A remodel is planned, not urgent. Homeowners collect photos and prices for weeks or months, compare contractors and sign long after the first click.

Where the path leaks for remodeling companies and general contractors
What a free audit flags first, in the order your customer meets each step.
Fix-first list 6 issues
1The search ad
Found: “Kitchen remodel” pulls in idea browsers who won’t start for a year
Change: Campaigns by project type that block idea and DIY searches and say where projects start
Details
Where it leaks. Broad terms like “kitchen remodel” pull in people looking for ideas, cabinet stores, DIY videos and costs for a project they won’t start for a year, alongside the homeowner ready to hire. With nothing about project size in the ad, a bathroom refresh and a whole-floor renovation cost the same click.
What we change. Campaigns by project type (kitchen, bath, addition, whole home), negative keywords for ideas, DIY, retail and jobs, and ad copy that says where your projects start, so small jobs pass you by.
2The project page
Found: A homepage slideshow with no cost, timeline or who’ll be in the house
Change: A page per project type with your own work, a real price range and who runs the job
Details
Where it leaks. The ad lands on a homepage slideshow. Nothing says what a project like this usually costs, how long it takes or who will be in the house.
What we change. A page per project type with your own finished work, a realistic price range, the steps from design to final walk-through and who runs the job. If you work on homes built before 1978, it says your firm is lead-safe certified, which the EPA requires for work that disturbs paint in those homes.
3The inquiry form
Found: Short forms bring no-budget leads; long ones scare off serious buyers
Change: A short form for budget, timeline and year built, then a design visit booked on the spot
Details
Where it leaks. A three-field form brings in people with no budget; a twelve-field form scares off serious buyers. Either way the first call is spent finding out the budget and the timeline.
What we change. A short form that asks project type, a budget range, timeline and the year the home was built, then offers a design visit time on the spot. Big projects go straight to the owner, small ones to a polite referral.
4Design visit and proposal
Found: Weeks pass between visit, proposal and decision, and the details fade
Change: Follow-up after each visit and proposal, with photos of similar finished projects
Details
Where it leaks. Weeks pass between the design visit, the proposal and a decision. Without follow-up, the homeowner forgets the details and signs with whoever stayed in touch.
What we change. A follow-up schedule after each visit and proposal, with photos of similar finished projects and answers on permits, timing and financing. A contract signed at the customer’s home usually carries a three-day right to cancel under the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule, so the sale counts once that window passes.
5Measurement
Found: A project signed four months later never links back to the search
Change: Design visits and proposals count as early conversions, signed contracts as the main one
Details
Where it leaks. The ads get credit for form fills, and a project signed four months later never connects to the search that started it, because Google keeps the click ID for only 90 days.
What we change. Design visits held and proposals sent are imported as early conversions inside that window, and signed contracts as the main one, with their value. Meta gets the same stages through its qualified leads setup, so both platforms learn which leads become projects.
6Being found
Found: Stock photos and an unlabeled gallery give homeowners nothing to go on
Change: Project pages with neighborhood, scope, timeline and photos, and reviews after each job
Details
Where it leaks. A Business Profile with stock photos and a gallery with no locations or descriptions give a homeowner comparing contractors nothing to go on.
What we change. Project pages for real jobs, with the neighborhood, scope, timeline and photos, the same photos on your Business Profile, and a review request after every finished project with no reward attached.
The rules your ads work within
What remodeling companies and general contractors can say, who the ads can reach and what a site can track.
Pre-launch check
Every ad, page and tag, before anything runs
State law
License and registration numbers in ads
California, Florida and New Jersey require your license or registration number in ads, and California bars “bonded.”
Details
California requires the license number in all forms of advertising, bars ads for work outside your license classification and forbids telling the public you’re bonded, so “licensed, bonded and insured” can’t run there. Florida requires the certification or registration number in every advertisement, whatever the medium, and New Jersey requires the home improvement contractor registration number on all advertisements distributed in the state.
EPA
Lead-safe work in older homes
Work that disturbs paint in a pre-1978 home needs a certified firm, so say if you are one and ask the year built.
Details
Close to half of US homes were built before 1980, by the Census Bureau’s 2024 count. Renovation that disturbs paint in a home built before 1978 has to be done by an EPA- or state-certified firm using certified renovators. If your firm is certified, say so on the page, and ask the year the home was built on the form.
Federal law
Financing offers
An ad that names a monthly payment or down payment must state the APR and terms, even for a lender’s plan.
Details
Under federal Truth in Lending rules, an ad that names a monthly payment, a number of payments or a down payment amount must also state the APR and the repayment terms, and the rule covers a contractor promoting a lender’s plan. “No money down” on its own doesn’t trigger it. On Meta, an ad built around a credit offer belongs in the Financial products and services Special Ad Category, which removes age, gender and ZIP code targeting and lookalike audiences.
California
California deposits
Deposits are capped at $1,000 or 10 percent, whichever is less, unless you hold a blanket bond on file with the CSLB.
Details
A California home improvement contract can’t call for a down payment above $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and the state makes no exception for special-order materials. An ad or page that offers to lock in a start date for a bigger deposit can’t run there unless you hold the blanket performance and payment bond on file with the CSLB that exempts you.
One team, five services
Each one set up for remodeling companies and general contractors, and built for the step after it.
Google Ads
Campaigns by project type that block idea, DIY and retail searches, with ad copy that says where your projects start.
How we run Google AdsDetails
Campaigns by project type with negative keywords for ideas, DIY, retail and jobs, ad copy that says where your projects start, license or registration numbers where your state requires them, and Local Services Ads in the general contractor, kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling category.
Meta ads
Before-and-after photos and walk-through videos for homeowners nearby, with forms that ask project type and budget.
How we run Meta adsDetails
Remodeling sells on pictures, so Meta carries before-and-after photos and short walk-through videos to homeowners in the areas you work, with retargeting for people who viewed a project page and lead forms that ask project type, budget range and timeline. Ads built around a financing offer go in the Financial products and services category.
Conversion rate optimization
Project pages and forms tested on design visits and signed projects: price ranges shown or hidden, budget asked or not.
How we do conversion workDetails
Project pages and inquiry forms tested on design visits booked and projects signed, not on form fills: price ranges shown or hidden, a budget question asked or skipped, a visit time offered on the spot or a callback promised.
Website design
A portfolio sorted by project type and neighborhood, each job with its scope, timeline and photos, and a process page.
How we design websitesDetails
A portfolio sorted by project type and neighborhood, each project with its scope, timeline and photos from your own jobs, a process page from design to final walk-through, and your license or registration number where your state requires it.
SEO
Project pages that name the neighborhood and cost pages with real ranges, so suburb searches find work you did there.
How we do SEODetails
Project pages that name the neighborhood and scope, cost pages with real ranges from your own jobs, Business Profile photos that match the site, and reviews requested after every finished project, so a search for a bathroom remodel in a nearby suburb finds work you did there.

Questions from remodeling companies and general contractors
Ask us anything else at [email protected]. A founder replies within one business day.
How long before we know if ads work for remodeling?
Longer than for a repair trade. Design visits show up within weeks; signed projects can take months. We judge the first months on cost per design visit and the value of proposals sent, and record visits and proposals as conversions so the ads aren’t judged only on contracts that land after Google’s 90-day window.
Should we show prices on our website?
Ranges, yes, taken from your own finished jobs and labeled as ranges. A homeowner who sees that your kitchens start well above their budget leaves without costing you a design visit, and one who stays arrives with a number in mind. We test the page with and without them and judge on projects signed.
How do we stop getting small jobs we don’t want?
Say where your projects start in the ad and on the page, add negative keywords for repairs and handyman searches, ask for a budget range on the form, and send only qualified leads back to Google Ads and Meta, so bidding stops chasing the small ones.
Do you work with general contractors on commercial jobs?
Yes, when the work is found through search, such as tenant improvements or light commercial builds. Those buyers search for a capability and want a request-for-quote path, so the ad goes to a page about that kind of project, and we track quote requests and bids, not clicks.
What does the free audit look at for a remodeler?
Your ads, the project pages and site they send people to, how inquiries are tracked through design visits and signed contracts, how proposals are followed up, and how your projects show up in Maps and search. A founder records a 10- to 15-minute walkthrough and writes a one-page summary, delivered within 3 business days, with no call or login needed.
How is the work priced?
Ongoing work is one flat monthly fee, never a percentage of your ad spend, and it runs month to month. Website builds get a fixed quote in writing. After your audit, a written proposal with your fee in dollars follows within 2 business days of asking. How our pricing works.
